The Price of Doing the Same Old Thing is Far Higher Than the Price of Change” — Bill Clinton

Hi, my name is Bradley Dorfan.

You may or may not know me, but allow me to introduce myself all the same.

Although this is a page I created to showcase what I do and how I could potentially be of assistance in your life, its main focus is really on you!

I place particular attention on personal development for introverts, atheists, LGBTQ+ individuals, vegans and anyone else who is struggling with the confidence to live a truly authetic life and find their place in this world… but I also cover the umbrella topics of motivation, mindset, health, relationships as well as provide guidance regarding vocation and lifestyle.

Please take a look around and if you need anything from simple personal development techniques for motivation to generating a list of clients for your local business, chances are I can help you out.

And, if not, I’ll do my best to point you in the right direction.

In a Nutshell, This is what i do.

If you know why you’re here and what you’re looking for, click one of the three blocks below and I’ll get you set up.

But if you’re not quite sure where I fit in, please continue reading to find out more about me, what I do as well as why I do it.

Personal Development

If you’re not ready for a more hands on approach quite yet, that’s perfectly ok. We all have our own journey to take. In the meantime, you can find everything you need to get your toes wet on The Public Server website. If you’re not sure where to start, I recommend you sign up for An Introvert’s Guide to Escaping Mediocrity here.

Coaching & Consulting

If you’re ready to take that next step in personal development, but you feel stuck in place, you may just need a coach to lend a helping hand. Right now I’m offering a Just Getting Started Coaching Session for anyone who is in need of kickstarting their confidence and wants a kick in the butt to just get started on the road to living the life they’ve always wanted.

Entrepreneurship & Freelance

This is a call to all business owners. If you have a local gym, salon, agency or other local business and you can just never have too many clients, I’d love to discuss how FB Advertising could be just the low-cost-per-lead option you’ve been looking for. Additionally (or alternatively) if you’re looking for a writer or content creator, whether you need something edited or a ghostwriter for your blog, I’m your guy.

From my personal development journey to yours

Unleash Your Full Potential

I’m sure you’ll agree with me when I say that we all have areas of our lives we would like to improve, yet are unsure where to even begin, let alone know exactly what we need to do in order to get the results we want.

Or, we know what we need to do, generally speaking, but various obstacles stand in our way and the gaps in our knowledge make it difficult to get going.

Or, we know precisely what we need to change in order to obtain a particular result, but lack sufficient motivation or accountability to take the necessary steps towards achieving the hopes, dreams and desires we’ve envisioned for our lives.

No matter which way you slice it, it’s easy to get stuck in routines, because they serve to automate the mundane, and it’s equally difficult to break those engrained habits which seem harmless in the moment.

But moments add up, and our lives become the physical manifestation of the decisions we made in the past.

Every day, we receive fresh opportunities to improve our lives in one way or another but time is limited and, although we can do anything we want, unfortunately we can’t do everything.

Five Minutes for the Next Five Years

Doing a quick audit of your life, I urge you to identify those areas of particular concern.

What aspects have been neglected and which one’s would you most like to improve?

I believe that we can achieve drastic personal transformation from even seemingly-negligible shifts in attitude and behaviour.

Whether it’s motivation, mindset, health, relationships, lifestyle or any other aspect that is in need of attention, it is never too late to make the necessary changes.

Think about the next five years, where you see yourself as well as what it is you want or need.

And then ask yourself: “am I on the right track to making my dreams, goals, hopes and desires a reality?”

Nothing of significance ever happens by accident; it is up to us to make intentional progress towards worthwhile endeavours.

Is The Public Server Right for You?

There is a lot of personal development advice out there, but does it ALL absolutely resonate with us 100% of the time?

I firmly believe that one of the most important things we can do in our lives is to continuously learn and grow; never stagnate and atrophy. And, as we curiously consume new information, we must always be willing to change our minds as our understanding of reality improves.

We can never really know anything with absolute certainty, but we can always be convinced of something with such a significant degree of certainty, that to live our lives in opposition to it would, necessarily, be irrational.

Scepticism, then, is to live in accordance with this philosophy. It is the ability to develop reasonable expectations about the world we live in and the people we interact with, based on good evidence, and then alter our beliefs as our knowledge and understanding grows.

It is not being cynical; assuming the worst of people and living in distrust of everything around us. It is not being fickle; shifting our beliefs for no good reason at any given time. It is certainly not being gullible; letting the world influence and take advantage of us.

Being sceptical simply means:

  1. Being open to the possibility that what we currently think and believe may be based on faulty evidence;
  2. Being willing to review and evaluate the new, conflicting evidence that we are being presented with; and
  3. Being able to accept a claim based on the sufficiency of evidence supporting it.

Practically speaking, we only accept something as being true when we are reasonably convinced of its validity.

This is the foundation upon which TPS is built — the presentation of thoughts, ideas, concepts, opinions and beliefs (not necessarily held) to inspire critical thinking regarding a particular topic, issue or current affair.

When you read a piece of content, ask yourself whether you agree with it and why. Don’t simply accept what is being communicated. Learn to differentiate between the claim and the evidence that supports it. Do your due diligence and draw your own conclusions.

The problem, I have found, lies in our apparent inability, unwillingness or outright refusal to shift our behaviour in accordance with strong evidence that contradicts our current worldview.

I believe many of the world’s problems could be mitigated or resolved if society reacted more swiftly to updates in our understanding of reality and wasn’t so obstinately opposed to change.

This brings us to the main purpose of TPS as well as at whom its content is directed.

Those that identify as an introvert, atheist, LGBTQ+ individual and/or vegan.

Although my focus is on personal development aimed towards the above groups, if you find that you need to hide your authentic self out of fear of how those around you will react, I urge you to join TPS and get started on your journey of positive personal transformation.

What is so special about these groups that justifies excluding a wider audience, you may be asking?

  • I’m positive that everybody could benefit from joining TPS, getting involved and providing a unique perspective to the conversations;
  • I, personally, relate most to these groups and the problems that they face;
  • I believe that those who identify as one, some or all of these groups are likely not living in congruence with their identity / beliefs due to the nature of the status quo (I address this in more detail on the website);
  • I, unfortunately, cannot appeal to everyone and every aspect of personal development. It is far more effective for me to curate content, share resources and provide value to those I can relate to, around topics I’m familiar with (or knowledgeable about) and regarding obstacles I have personally encountered and overcome; and
  • I have found that people can be quite ignorant in their evaluation of these groups. Therefore, I plan to build TPS into a thriving community for those affected by said ignorance, encouraging them to reach out to us for insights, inspiration and information as well as provide them with the tools they require to rise above the challenges they face as a result.

If you do identify with the above groups, we hope that TPS can help you:

  1. Gain Perspective to take care of your mind; live curiously, discover why you believe what you believe and act as you do, as well as consider whether your beliefs and actions align with what is moral and what is true.
  2. Get Active — to take care of your body; eat well, exercise regularly and become more intentional with what you consume. Amazing things happen when you make simple adjustments to your lifestyle. Improving your health translates into increased confidence, a clearer head, less stress, better sleep, more energy and so much more. It feeds into everything else you do and makes it a lot easier to overcome the obstacles’ life throws your way.
  3. Make Connections — to take care of yourself; be respectful, yet assertive! You can be a kind, compassionate and decent human being while also acting in your best interests, standing up for yourself when being mistreated and not worrying so obsessively about what others think when making decisions for your life. Find people who will cheer you on and spend less time with those that bring you down… because life is too short to live it on other people’s terms.
  4. Break Free — to take care of your future; put into practice that which you know will give you the best chances of success. Knowledge is merely potential power and the only way you will achieve anything of significance is to take action towards your dreams, goals and desires. Live with purpose, work with passion and strive to leave this world better off just for having you in it.

What is your MAIN struggle right now? Let’s chat…

The Man Behind the Madness

My name is Bradley Dorfan and this is completely out of my comfort zone.

Thinking about my life recently made me realise something quite disconcerting — I haven’t really been participating in it.

I mean, yeah, sure, I’ve done things and had good times, but boy do I struggle recounting significant moments in my life that I can honestly look back on fondly or proudly.

When I was a kid, I would ‘opt-out‘ of everything and anything, even if I would have actually enjoyed that thing if I had just tried.

I would quit things long before I was willing to give them any sort of chance.

I joined the football (soccer) team in primary school… for 1 day. I took up Karate… for 1 day. I did a lot of things for the shortest possible time before concluding that it ‘just wasn’t for me‘ and then I’d flake.

I was much happier alone, playing video games and being away from the world with nobody to disappoint but myself.

Although I didn’t think about it this way back then — I just thought that eating myself into a coma while turning into a zombie in front of the TV was the most valuable use of my time.

But, not only was the lifestyle I was fostering destroying my mental wellbeing, it wasn’t doing my physical health any favours either.

By the time I turned 12 I was pretty much rolling around everywhere I went and became so self-conscious about my weight I found myself in a vicious cycle of eating my feelings and withdrawing from the world more and more.

And the more my health deteriorated, the more I would avoid people, which would ultimately validate my feelings of inadequacy further and result in the consumption of more unhealthy crap.

It eventually got to the point where I would outright refuse to be a part of anything that would open me up to looking foolish in front of people in any way.

I hate to say it, but I feel pretty pathetic and believe I missed out on a lot of cool experiences in my youth I could have had if I just put myself out there.

But that’s the price you pay when you live a life in fear.

This behaviour leaked into my adult life, but now you could catch me trying things, briefly, always with a plan to ‘get out‘ at a moment’s notice.

I didn’t do anything where there was potential for ‘public humiliation‘.

At parties, you could find me alone, or mingling with a few people having not much to say and definitely leaving early.

In school and university, I’d be at the back and have a stroke whenever called out to answer a question.

I wasn’t involved in any clubs and didn’t do any sports. I wanted to be an actor but wasn’t prepared to get on stage.

I had a few close friends, but never went out of my way to make new one’s.

I don’t even want to go into my ‘intimate relationships‘.

You see, I know what it’s like to live a life in the shadows and know all too well what kind of problems that causes.

I also know that we are not defined by our past or trapped in an inescapable cycle of our own shortcomings.

I know that it is very possible to grow, adapt and change in order to do the things we want to do.

And I know that we must do things that we’ve never done before if we ever want a life that we’ve never had.

I know these things because a lifetime chasing comfort had caused me nothing but pain and the minute I accepted the pain and discomfort of doing something new and scary, that was when a whole new world of possibilities opened up to me.

Just Getting Started

The premise of my transformation from a shy, scared, self-conscious, overweight loner to a semi-functional, somewhat social and seemingly confident individual lies in one simple concept — self-awareness!

Unfortunately my self-awareness was triggered by a place I like to call ‘rock bottom‘.

No, I didn’t lose everything in a fantastic display of catastrophic self-destruction.

My rock bottom was more of a culmination of many years of indecision and apathy that had finally caught up with me and I could no longer ignore the problems it was causing.

I had hit rock bottom in my health, my self-esteem, my attitude towards life, my work ethic, my social life and my prospects for success in anything of significance.

Don’t get me wrong, it could always be worse, but the way I see rock bottom is the lowest one will allow themselves to go before they decide enough is enough.

And enough was enough!

It was during the year 2012 when I woke up one morning, stood bare before the mirror and could hardly recognise the person staring back at me.

With the help and support of my friends and family, this became a turning-point year for me — this was when I started to make some big changes in my life.

And, although it has been almost a decade and I can barely believe how far I’ve come, it was not quick and it was not easy and I still have a long, long way to go.

But perspective is a great thing to have and I’ve learnt so many principles that can be universally applied to most, if not all, aspects of life and personal development.

The first and most crucial step, however, is to just get started. And that’s half the battle won right there.

In any new endeavour, just getting started is the toughest challenge and the longest chapter. This element of everything in life is responsible for more broken promises, lost potential and failure than anything else I can think of.

To just start something, anything at all, is crippling and can be both the beginning and the end of our hopes, dreams and aspirations.

And this is not just true of those wishing to tackle a personally novel experiment, but even masters of a craft can find themselves staring into the face of procrastination when confronted with a grueling aspect of an activity they’ve done multiple times before.

Yet, it is those with the mental fortitude to push past the doubt and the fear; that can just get on with it and do whatever it takes to get it done, who end up succeeding in this world.

Step by tiny step, I started taking my health, my mindset, my confidence, my social life and my future very, very seriously.

Since then, I’ve made significant improvements to my health and have gotten in the best shape of my life.

When I took responsibility for my future and finally committed to getting admitted as an attorney (even when I realised it wasn’t something I wanted to do with my life) I put my head down and I made it happen (by the skin of my teeth).

When I finally decided to come out about who I am to my loved one’s, I was terrified that they would react negatively to the news. But, if I ever hoped to accept and love myself, I needed to live fully and honestly. That closet is a dark and lonely place and, much like my comfort zone, I desperately needed to get out. Yes, I’m sure there are people who will find issue with the fact that I’m both gay and an atheist and, although nobody has ever confronted me personally about my sexual orientation, I find it shocking to believe that we live in a world where people are still being harmed or discriminated against because their mere existence somehow offends another’s antiquated beliefs. I have, however, received backlash for my incredulity and, in the past, I would mostly just keep quiet and nod my head in agreement when the topic of religion came up. Most recently, after concluding that I was no longer willing to support an industry that profits off the suffering of sentient beings, my decision to go vegan has also been met with resistance. But we cannot let the fear of other people’s judgement turn us against ourselves in an effort to keep the peace. Unless it would put your life in danger, honesty is, as they say, the best policy.

And when I finally decided to pursue my dream of starting my own business, I was willing to take that risk because I was able to choose my fear of regret as a motivator over my fear of failure.

Together with the above, I have struggled through issues with confidence, procrastination, social anxiety, feelings of inadequacy as well as many other limitations and obstacles standing in my way of where I want to go.

Personal development is a set of skills that need to be honed and worked on regularly and consistently. It is not a one time deal; it’s not a set it and forget it sort of thing.

I’m not special or superhuman. Through grit, determination, perseverance and a little bit of hustle, I was simply able to overcome aspects of my life that other people seem to have all naturally figured out.

Nothing, and I mean nothing, came easy to me. I don’t believe I possess any valuable natural talent, skill or expertise (besides for maybe writing, and that’s also touch-and-go). Yet, we can all learn and acquire those things and, with hard work, become successful in anything we set our minds to.

I have also not had an especially difficult life. My particular flavour of adversity is admittedly extraordinarily vanilla. For instance, I’d say my greatest shortcoming, and one I’m extremely embarrassed to admit (but, for the purpose of transparency, I will reluctantly disclose), is the fact that I’ve never really had to take personal responsibility for many things in my life.

And, when life finally thrust responsibility into my lap rather unexpectedly, I was supremely unprepared for it and crumbled under the weight of all the pressure like a cheap chair being sat on by an elephant.

But the best thing I ever did, and something I do every single day in anything I do, is to just. get. started.
